September 1939 The Partition of Poland

The period August-October 1939 proved a unique lesson for Poland, Europe and the world. Has anything been learnt from this lesson? From the perspective of the European Union it might, indeed, appears so. Can the very existence of the EU, however, be of any comfort, bearing in mind that, outside of it, there are still many forces which have gained a completely different understanding from that lesson?
